The European Movement International, together with the European Movement Finland, are holding a panel discussion on “What Future for Europe? Defence & Security – What can the EU do?”. This event will be held in Helsinki, at Maijansali in the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, on 13 December 2022 (13:00 – 14:30 CET).
The European Union is faced with a multitude of challenges of global proportions. This event is part of a series aimed at discussing those challenges from a European and national perspective, by gathering stakeholders and policymakers to discuss what the EU’s response should be.
Changes in the geopolitical order in the past decade have generated a debate in Europe about what the EU’s response should be. But Russia’s aggression and the war in Ukraine have put in sharp focus the need for closer cooperation among European states and for an active role for the EU in defence and security.
This event will look at the EU’s efforts to craft a common defence and security policy and how the current geopolitical crisis, as shaped by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, affects Finland and the EU as a whole.
