Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has fundamentally reshaped Europe’s security landscape, putting the European Union’s (EU) enlargement policy into a renewed position of strategic importance. The war has underscored the need to enhance security and stability across Eastern Europe, where countries like Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia, as well as countries in the Western Balkans, are particularly vulnerable to Russia’s influence.
Jointly organised by the European Movement International, the European Movement Albania and the European Movement Serbia, this event will address the priorities and challenges for the next enlargement wave and the work that the EU needs to carry out. Bringing together representatives from the EU institutions, civil society organisations, and think tanks focusing on EU enlargement, the rule of law, European issues, and the Western Balkan region, speakers will share their insights, followed by an open discussion with all participants.
The panel will feature:
- Dragana Djurica, Secretary General, European Movement Serbia;
- Gledis Gjipali, Executive Director, European Movement Albania;
- Iliriana Gjoni, Research Analyst, Carnegie Europe;
- Thomas Hagleitner, Head of Unit for Western Balkans Policy & Regional Strategy, DG NEAR, European Commission;
- Vladimir Prebilič MEP (Greens/EFA), European Parliament.
- Corina Stratulat, Associate Director and Head of European Politics and Institutions Programme, European Policy Centre.
Moderated by Petros Fassoulas, Secretary General, European Movement International
