The outrageous hijacking of an airplane by the Belarussian authorities and the detention of Raman Protasevich and Sofia Sapega are unprecedented and unacceptable challenges to international laws and norms which must be countered.

We demand that Belarussian authorities release Roman, Sofia and all political prisoners immediately, and now call on the European Union and all European states to go further in that direction and sanction the leaders of Belarus by all means possible.

We call on the international community to adopt the same measures and invite all European civil society organisations and citizens to stand with us in this call.
